We welcomed new members!

Three of our Piggy Committee members welcomed little ones this year! We are overjoyed to watch Glenna’s college and childhood friends grow their families and we know she would be a proud auntie to them all. We are excited to share Glenna’s legacy with the next generation and continue to spread awareness to the dangers of melanoma.

We had another successful Piggy Trot

Although the weather wasn’t the best for our 7th Annual Piggy Trot, we made the best of it! With 350 runners braving the wind, rain and cold, we raised more than $25,000. SAVE THE DATE for the 8th Annual Piggy Trot on Sunday, May 21 at Dowses Beach. We are currently seeking sponsors for the road race and registration will be available soon.

We distributed sunscreen to the Cape

To continue our mission of spreading awareness to the dangers of skin cancer, we have continued to distribute and replace sunscreen dispensers around Cape Cod. To date, we have distributed 47 one-gallon sunscreen dispensers to ponds, beaches and high traffic areas from Truro to Mashpee. As most of you know from coming to our events, we typically send everyone home with an individual bottle too!

Donations to MGH in 2016

We advanced melanoma research

Since 2009, we have donated to a melanoma research fund at the Center for Melanoma at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. Glenna was passionate about participating in clinical trials during her treatment and with our support, MGH has made revolutionary progress in understanding why certain patients do not respond to targeted therapy. We are proud to have donated $20,000 this year to advance this research by Dr. Donald Lawrence, one of Glenna’s doctors.

We did a lot of planning for 2017!

We have started conversations with many towns on the Cape to build community shade structures similar to the one we built in Yarmouth in 2015. Hopefully, we can establish one (if not two) during this year. To raise the money needed for these shade structures we decided to host a new event – the 1st Annual Piggy Roast on September 23, 2017. This family-friendly, fundraising event will have great barbecue, cold beer, and silent auction while listening to a battle-of-the-bands music showcase.
