Funds raised are earmarked to construct shade canopies for lifeguard towers and install sunscreen dispensers on Cape Cod beaches for all to use. Glenna guarded the beaches on Cape Cod for five summers, earning the title of head lifeguard at Dowses Beach in Osterville. Lifeguarding increased Glenna’s risk of melanoma from 40+ hours of UV ray exposure each week while stationed at her unprotected lifeguard tower. The red shade canopies are locally designed and constructed to protect lifeguards while continuing Glenna’s mission to promote awareness of the dangers of overexposure to the sun’s UV rays. |
